Refuge Terzo Alpini

The Terzo Alpini hut is located at 1780 m above sea level, in the "Vallée Étroite" (Névache municipality), a protected area. Initially a hut of the Italian Alpine Club, since 2006 it has become a private hut. The hut owes its name to the third alpine regiment of the Italian army that fought in the region during World War II. In summer, it is accessible on foot from Névache, Modane and Bardonecchia, and also by car via the "Col de l'Échelle", which owes its name to a ladder that allowed crossing the pass before the road was opened. In winter, it is only accessible by cross-country or alpine skiing or snowshoeing. Managed by Riccardo and Anna Novo, the Terzo Alpini can accommodate up to 34 people. In summer and winter, the hut has hot showers. At the Terzo Alpini, Italian tradition is a must! The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and Riccardo's polenta and sausage have given strength to more than one hiker!

Getting there by road: Summer: France-Névache-Col de l'Echelle-Vallè Etroite Italy-Bardonecchia-Melezet-Pian del Colle-Vallè Etroite Getting there by train: Briançon station is linked to the TER regional express trains from Marseille and Gap and to mainline trains from Paris and Lyon. Bardonecchia-Oulx station has TGV services from Paris and Turin/Milan. Winter: Italy-Bardonecchia-Pian del Colle and then about 1hr 30 mins on foot, cross-country skis, off-piste touring skis or snowshoes. France-Névache via Col des Thures, Col du Vallon, Col des Muandes, Col de la Vallée Etroite on snowshoes or touring skis.
